Online Media Production

This module will provide with a historical and theoretical introduction as well as a practical training in online media production. In lectures, students will explore the cultural contexts of interactive online media production and develop methods for describing, analysing and criticising a diverse range of online media forms and practices. We will discuss the global, ethical and transcultural dimensions of social media, AI and big data.
Visualising Culture

Increasingly invasive regimes of imaging have wide ranging consequences, both social and political.

Semiotic

Innovative Digital Communication

This course introduces the innovative world of blogging by exposing students to an extensive level of digital communication. Students will learn the concepts and techniques for producing high-quality content with add-on knowledge on social and ethical issues.
This course aims to develop students’ ability to write innovatively and produce content in digital environments. It will also expose students to a variety of Web 2.0 online tools and platforms that support writing online such as websites, blogs, media narratives and digital storytelling (i.e. audio and video essays, podcasts, and wikis).
Visual Communication

Collaborative Production Workshop
This subject explores the skills, strategies and professional expectations of collaborative media production. An examination of relevant principles, practices and industry case studies provides the basis for teams of students with different media production expertise to collaborate in the development of common projects.
Web Design and
Interactive Media
This is a higher level multimedia and interactive design course, in which case studies will focus on both the spatial design and the sequential-interactive-narrative aspect of modern screen-based media, such as web site, mobile app, virtual tour, augmented reality as well as games.
The course provides students with aesthetic frameworks for the appreciation of spatial and sequential design in dynamic media, and for developing a personal style in interactive media design and informational communication. Students will gain hands-on experience in designing and prototyping an interactive media project or an interactive application/game for digital marketing and communication.
Corporate Identity and Branding

Photography

Focus mostly on Mobile Photography - How to operate a camera and use photography to communicate ideas.; interpret experience and convey messages using storytelling method with combined images.
This course enables students to learn the operation of the camera, as well as the theory and practice of photography in which students can make use of photographs for both data collection and the actual design work. They will also learn to use the camera as a tool to produce images that convey messages.
Digital and Social Innovation
This subject explores the local and global impacts of digital and social innovation and the major debates surrounding digital disruption across the creative industries. Lecture topics will focus on major differences between a range of activities in startups, innovation hubs, incubators, accelerators, and co-working spaces, as well as in creative and cultural industry precincts and other emerging areas of ‘smart cities. It also focuses on the network of interactions among people, organizations, and real-world locations that are defining these innovative and entrepreneurial activities. Through case studies, guest lectures from digital media practitioners, and assessment tasks, students will investigate a range of public and private stakeholders, projects, shared events, technologies, and policies that are shaping innovation and entrepreneurship in commercial and non-profit creative industry settings.

Advertising & Integrated Marketing Communication
Introduces students to the dynamic and complex world of integrated marketing communications, with emphasis on advertising. It examines, through current issue analysis, the challenges and opportunities that marketers face in this digital era. Students are required to analyze advertising and other marketing communication problems, through case studies and project assignments, from the management’s viewpoint. Real-life examples are used to explain how brand and product features/benefits can be translated into promotional appeals that influence customers’ purchasing behavior.

Culture and Society in the Digital Age

A smartphone is no longer regarded as merely a phone, it is a device that takes pictures, makes videos, and connects people to the world in ways no one has ever imagined before, and mobile technology is in no way stagnant and are continuously evolving. Mobile technology is one of the forces shaping our cultural and modern society.
This module aims at engaging students in an active investigation into the social and cultural impact created by the rise of digital technology. Aside from the technological point of view, students will be guided to adopt multiple perspectives from social science, media studies, and cultural studies to describe and explain socio-cultural phenomenon. The module also aims at facilitating student’s research skills and critical thinking skills.
Media Aesthetics

This module equips students with the aesthetic theories in design and media practice and introduces different types of new media. Oral Skills

This course has been designed to help students improve spoken English and offers various opportunities to achieve this goal. These include instruction on aspects of speech and oral communication (formal and informal); information about common ways of describing spoken English (including the International Phonetic Association symbols for the sounds of speech); in-class exercises on pronunciation and intonation during which students will learn about more theoretical aspects of spoken English and focus on micro aspects of spoken English; oral dubbing where students use English to replace voices on films or documentaries; recitation where having a chance to recite with meaning naturally; and a project in which students compare their own spoken English with a native speaker of English.

Global Media Intervention
This subject examines strategies and campaigns to address global inequalities in media and information flows, from the UNESCO debates of the 1960s to recent developments at the World Summit on the Information Society and beyond. Students explore their own rights and responsibilities as Global Media Citizens through case studies of international media regulation and citizens' media initiatives.
Web Design 2

To equip young people interested in joining the festival decoration industry, Y.E.S. is the first to launch this brand new training course. In addition to introducing the materials and equipment used in shopping malls, the course also teaches participants the production and installation skills of various types of decorations, research and design diagrams, and field observations. Participants who perform well can also get job experience and internship opportunities.

The Application of Flash
In the early days of the internet, playing animations in a browser was a dream. Ways to do so include creating GIF images from Adobe ImageReady or writing Java program, which was extremely slow. Macromedia Flash became very popular due to the small file size, improved performance, and freely available Flash Player plugin, perfect for the dial-up internet connections at the time.
This introductory course explores animation's basis skills by using Macromedia Flash 4.0 to demonstrate how to put a vector graphic in motion by moving up/down, left/right, fade in/out, scaling, etc.

In the early 2000s, during the dot-com bubble (the Internet bubble). The media industry struggles for web designers with proper education - web design, motion graphic (GIF) & multimedia media tools.
In this course, the student will understand the basic creation of a web page based on the current software and technology trend. The course outline includes the basic programming coding structure of HTML 4.0, CSS2, with practical design skill with creating web graphics in Adobe Photoshop 5.5 (JPG) and Adobe ImageReady 1.0 (Animated GIF). Execute final projects and class exercises with web design projects based on learned technical skills.
Digital Video and Audio Production
In the early 2000s, many media companies experience the digitalization process by changing their system from analog to digital. Many digital production courses were introduced to the market.
Students learned the process of digital video production includes the basic video Pre-Production, Production, and Post-Production process. Lecture based on the theory of the planning stage with documentation, tutorial based on actual live video production of news production, green screen, and editing. Learned how to use Adobe Premiere 5.0.
